2nd class reflection...

Video Clip assignment.

The second week lecture was focusing more on the video clip assignment. The lecturer explained that in the video clip, we need to have an objective. We need to know to whom the video is made for. Besides that, she also explained video clip can be used to inform people about particular topic/things, to teach skills and also to influence people. Here, I realized that we can’t simply make a video and show it to other people but then we need to have some proper plan regarding our video. Some questions should arise when we plan to make a video such: what the main purposes of the video, who’s the target audience, is the content of the video suitable for the target audience and ect.

A part from that, tutors explained about the storyboard. Wait!!!!!! Story board???? What is that???

Storyboard

This is where it all begins. The first step is to understand what you are trying to communicate and what your intended message is. If you don't understand your message, no one will. Creating a script or storyboard will help ensure that you and your audince understand your intent.

Think of your video as a story. All good stories contain certain elements. When creating your story keep in mind the 5 W's;Who, What, When, Where, and Why. This will help you fill in the main body of your story. Additionally, there are some general terms that you should be familiar with; protagonist, antagonist, plot, setting, turning point, dialog, introduction, conclusion, narration, and points of view.

There are two main styles for laying out your story - a storyboard or a script. They each have their pros and cons. Continue on to find which one best suits your needs.

STORYBOARD

SCRIPT

The storyboard and script methods should be used in conjunction with one another. Creating a storyboard allows you to refine and examine the overall story-line. Once completed turn the storyboard in to a script. The final script will provide the detail required for the actual shooting. It will also allow the talent to view and rehearse their lines.

After listening to the tutor’s explanation regarding the storyboard then I have a brief idea what the storyboard is. Before the class end, tutors showed some examples of video created by UM student. It was short, simple and nice and the most important things is in each video that were displayed contains some useful massage to the target group.  I was grateful because the tutors showed us some of the video so that it gave a clearer view on how our video should look like. Thank you so much my lovely tutors…
